The National Security Council, established to advise the President on security matters, has held its first meeting.
The meeting, held at Ministry of Defence and National Security today, was chaired by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Defence Ministry said that discussions were focused on security issues faced by the country.
The council also discussed strengthening and improving the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), and creating policies on issues related to national security.
The council is made up of the President, the Vice President, the Minister of Defence and National Security, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Attorney General, and the Chief of Defence Force.
