Number of cases processed by High Court decreases by 30 percent

The number of cases processed by the High Court has gone down by 30 percent in 2013 compared with 2012.

High Court said that it completed 389 cases last year and 560 cases in 2012 - a reduction of 30.5 percent.

A total of 401 cases were filed to High Court last year, including 165 civil cases, 179 criminal cases, 32 employment cases, and several family, constitutional and election cases.

The court said that about 200 and about 100 cases were appealed by private individuals and the State respectively in 2013.

The High Court has nine judges, made up of Chief Justice Ahmed Shareef, Judge Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, Judge Abdulla Hameed, Judge Yoosuf Hussain, Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya, Judge Dr Azmiralda Zahir, Judge Abdul Raoof Ibrahim, Judge Abbas Shareef, and Judge Ali Sameer.
