Ministry of Tourism yesterday announced for a party to maintain and manage the Equatorial Convention Center (ECC) on a commercial basis. The convention center was built in Addu City for the 2011 SAARC Summit.
Tourism Ministry has announced an information session for the ECC lease on 27 January at 2:00 p.m. at the Ministry. Interested parties may submit their Expression of Interests before 2:00 p.m. on 5 February, the Ministry said.
The two previous administrations tried and failed to lease the convention center. Auditor General’s report of the 2011 SAARC Summit revealed gross misappropriation of public funds in the construction of ECC.
The center has seen deterioration due to neglect over the past two years.
