Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has postponed its ‘Run Reendhoo’ run and walk event scheduled for Friday in commemoration of the party’s 20th anniversary.
MDP has initially sought to hold ‘Run Reendhoo’ event last Friday at Hulhumale’ Central Park. The party was denied permit to hold the event by Housing Development Corporation (HDC), citing it was a political event. The party, in retaliation, announced its decision to hold the run at Male’ Majeedhee Magu this Friday.
The main opposition party, on Thursday, announced ‘Run Reendhoo’ event has been moved to August 1st, adding the event will now be held at Central Park and the road surrounding the party.

The party said further details regarding the event will be shared in the upcoming days.
Prior to this, MDP’s former chairperson Mariya Ahmed Didi has extended an invitation to people of all ages to participate in the event, adding that the run will have complete arrangements to accommodate senior citizens and people with disabilities as well.
She emphasized that, despite being referred to as an ‘MDP run,’ the event is not political in nature and is open to everyone.
The theme for MDP’s 20th anniversary is ‘Ekugai Gadhakoh’, which translates to "Strong Together." To mark the milestone, the party has planned events throughout the year. So far, a flag hoisting ceremony, cake cutting, and a futsal tournament have already been held.
