Mosque to be built in Bangladesh in honor of Sheikh Fareed

Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed.

Khidhumaiy, a non-government organization where late Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed worked at, has decided to build a mosque in Bangladesh in honor of late Sheikh.

Fareed suddenly passed away on Monday while at an airport in Malaysia. He was in Malaysia to attend conference on Islamic da’wah on behalf of the organization.

Khidhumaiy, via a post on Facebook on Tuesday, described Fareed’s contributions to the Islamic religion as priceless and beyond the ability of words—spoken or written—to fully capture.

The organization added that the Sheikh’s advice and knowledge were still benefiting people.

As such, they announced their decision to build a mosque in Bangladesh in Fareed’s honor, aimed at commemorating his services and offering a lasting charity in the name of the Sheikh that will benefit him even after his death.

The mosque which will be developed in Bangladesh will measure 255 square feet and will have a capacity 455 people. The organization expected the development of the mosque to cost approximately MVR 760,000.

Notably, the organization has opened donations for well-wishers who wish to contribute to the development of the mosque.

Donations can be made to the account number: 7770000141496

Fareed’s funeral and burial were held in Malaysia earlier today. Although the family initially decided to transport his body back to the Maldives, they backed out on the decision as a postmortem would need to be conducted on the body before it is permitted to be transported overseas.

Islamic Ministry has decided to hold a funeral in absentia for Fareed this Friday at all mosques nationwide where congregational Friday prayer is held.
