The farming slots under the second phase of Urban Farming, aimed at developing sustainable farming in Hulhumale’, has been inaugurated on Tuesday alongside Urban Plaza.
The project is implemented by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with grant assistance from Japan.
The farming slots and Urban Plaza was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Dr. Mariyam Mariya during a ceremony held on Tuesday evening.
The project falls under ‘Sustainable Economic Empowerment for Development SMEs’ (SEEDS) project. One of the main purposes of the project is to develop sustainable farming in Hulhumale’ while facilitating resources, training and a platform to sell their produces for participants.
A total of 84 farmers have been trained under the second phase of Urban Farming project.
A total of 28 slots have been issued for farming under the second phase of the Urban Farming project. Pop-up market stalls have been set up near the slots to allow farmers to sell their products easily.
The Urban Farming project was inaugurated in September 2021.
