Elderly citizen at Nolhivaram passes away amid swim

An elderly citizen from Haa Dhaal atoll Nolhivaram has passed away while they were out swimming.

The island council's president, Yoosuf Moosa, while speaking with 'Sun' Online confirmed the incident and added the elderly citizen was a 66-year-old man, a local from the island.

Yoosuf added the individual regularly went swimming before Luhr prayer everyday. 

"He experiences fits occasionally. The incident occurred between 11:00 and 11:30hrs. I received news of it around 17:38hrs," Yoosuf commented.

The council president said efforts to find the elderly man began after he did not come back home by Asr prayer, and was discovered around dusk close to Maqrib prayer.

Maldives Police Service said they received report around 17:45hrs of a man who had been missing after he went to buy fish around 11:30hrs.

The man was discovered outside of the island's boat yard, police added and said they were investigating the case.
