Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), on Friday, has announced its decision to hold a major rally in Maldivian capital, Male’ City, on May Day, advocating for the rights of laborers.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s main office on Friday evening, former Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain (Bigey) said MDP has always advocated for the difficulties faced by laborers at that particular time.
As such, he announced that the party will be holding a major rally on May Day this year as well.
In this regard, the rally will kick off at Artificial Beach at 8:30pm on May Day.
Hussain said preparations are underway for the rally at present, which will see participation from a large number of laborers.
Hussain, citing nearly everyone are facing difficulties in ensuring their basic needs currently, accused the government of infringing the rights of many people.
“One of the most basic necessities is health. An abled body. There are difficulties in accessing medication. Difficulties in accessing services that should be available,” he detailed.
MDP has been holding a series of protests against the government in Male’.
