Two expats arrested with vape cartridges, nanosticks and alcohol

Two expatriates have been arrested from Hulhumale’ with a large number of vape cartridges, two nanosticks and alcohol.

Police, in a message to the media, said the arrests were made during an operation jointly carried out by Hulhumale’ Special Enforcement Team and Investigation Team on Thursday based on a tip received to Police Intelligence.

In this regard, the Police detailed that a takeaway outlet located at a house in Hulhumale’ Phase I was searched in the operation during which a large number of vape cartridges, two nanosticks and a bottle containing substances believed to be alcohol were discovered.

Two Bangladesh nationals have been arrested in connection to the case: MD Raj Razzak, 29 and Mohamed Thareequl, 25.

Police have publicized a photo of the items seized from the expatriates.

The case is under further investigation by the authority.

Amendments to the Tobacco Control Act prohibited the import of vaping devices starting from November 15, followed by a ban on their sale, free distribution, and use starting from December 15.

Subsequently, Police has fined individuals found in violation of the law.

In this regard, a total of 27 people have been fined by MVR 123,000 for violating the law since March 31st.
