A Housing Development Corporation’s (HDC) recent audit has revealed further discrepancies in the Binveriya scheme.

HDC has submitted these findings to Maldives Police Service already to assist in their ongoing investigation in the matter.

HDC on Monday, March 17th, said it had discovered that more than one applicant had been making requests for building construction in the same plot. Besides this, several other discrepancies were discovered from the audit, while all of which had been subsequently reported to police.

The corporation further said it has been taking necessary steps to counter these issues, and assured it would continue to monitor for additional issues and take action against them.

In 2024, an issue of document forgery to grant plots of Binveriya scheme to individuals who were not originally eligible, came to light after which HDC came under heavy scrutiny. The corporation’s then Managing Director, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed was identified as the primary culpable party in the matter since one among these applicants who had received the plots included his own brother, Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed who also happened to be a Deputy Managing Director of MWSC.

While several HDC staff were suspended, Fazul himself had resigned from the position citing cooperation with the investigation.

Following Fazul’s exit, former Construction Minister Mauroof Jameel was appointed to succeed him to helm HDC.
