Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced a dedicated US dollar purchase service for umrah pilgirms during the upcoming Ramadan, aiming to enhance convenience for its customers.

According to BML, the service will be available at the conference hall of the Salman Mosque in Male’ and the BML’s Hulhumale’ Branch on banking days:

  • February 19 – 27:  From 09:00 am to 02:00 pm
  • March 2 – 13: From 09:30 am to 11:30 am

The announcement comes a day after BML announced the decision to grant an extra USD 1,500 allowance on debit cards for customers who will embark on umrah pilgrimage during the upcoming Ramadan.

BML customers are advised to take note of the following to ensure prompt and quick service:

  • Up to USD 500 can be purchased per person.
  • Customers can purchase dollars for up to five travelers at a time.
  • Payments can be made via BML issued debit cards or cash.
  • Valid ID cards or passports must be presented for each traveler at the time of purchase. If a third party or representative is purchasing dollars on behalf of a traveler, their ID card must also be presented.
  • Travelers using this service must be included in the Umrah Travelers list submitted by the Umrah groups. Other travelers can continue to use the USD Booking Portal to purchase dollars for collection at the Departure Hall at Velana International Airport.

During this period, Umrah dollar sales will not be available at BML Islamic Male' Branch, Main Branch or Villimale’ Branch.

However, customers residing outside the greater Male’ region can continue to visit their nearest branches for dollar purchases.
