Former High Court Judge Shuaib dies

Former High Court Judge, Shuaib Zakariyya, who served as a judge at the appellate court for over 11 years, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

Shuaib, who had been terminally ill for some time, was aged 55 at the time of his demise. His funeral will be held at ‘Aasaharaa’ and the funeral prayer is scheduled for 23:00hrs on Sunday evening.

Besides serving as a High Court judge, Shuaib had contributed significantly to the Maldivian judiciary. Other key positions and responsibilities he filled had included:

• Legal Officer at the Justice Ministry
• Special Judge
• Judge at the Family Court
• Chief Judge of the Civil Court and Juvenile Court

Shuaib was retired as the High Court judge on November 22, 2022.

He attained first degree in Law and Shariah in 1977, after which he read and completed his Masters in Corporative Law from Malaysia Islamic University
