State fisheries company, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) states 40 grams of tuna will not be omitted from the free tuna cans which will be distributed to households in conjunction with Ramadan as pledged by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Rumors on social media claim that 40 grams will be omitted from the free tuna cans distributed for households in conjunction with Ramadan.
The rumors have been denied by MIFCO via a post on X, citing 140 grams of tuna cans have been released to the market, for smaller households and for one-time use as refrigerating tuna cans is not ideal.
MIFCO is presently headed by Swiss national Dr. Vitaliy Lyubimov. The company has long been run at a loss. The current administration has transformed MIFCO into a 100 percent state-owned company in order to further strengthen Maldives’ fisheries sector.
