Maldives Police Service states 73,953 vehicles were inspected and 7,606 vehicles were penalized last year as part of the authority’s effort to ensure road safety.
According to the Police, they inspected 73,953 vehicles last year.
66,347 people were cautioned and 7,606 people were issued violation slips.
2,138 people who drove without a valid license were noted. They included 2,005 cases involving two-wheeled vehicles and 133 cases involving 133 vehicles.
293 cases of dangerous driving were noted. They include 271 cases involving two-wheeled vehicles and 22 cases involving four-wheel vehicles.
A total of 15,514 vehicles were towed during tow operations conducted last year. Their details are as follows:
While 546 out of the towed vehicles were destroyed, 13,562 vehicles have been handed over to their owners.
Police, citing dangerous road accidents were “extremely concerning” to the authority, said they had undertaken significant efforts last year to prevent such accidents and ensure road safety by utilizing a vast number resources. It was stressed that efforts were particularly undertaken to reduce fatal road accidents.
