The Maldives Immigration has arrested eight migrants from Hulhumale’ Phase I and Phase II for their involvement in illegally cleaning vehicles.
The authority confirmed it conducted a special raid on Tuesday targeting such individuals, and arrested the eight migrants who lacked proper visa documents.
This is the latest in the string of operations conducted by Immigration in Hulhumale’ as the authority had inspected 26 venues in Hulhumale’ Phase II this Sunday and inspected 13 other places in Phase II on Saturday, and made four and three arrests respectively.
The incumbent government aims to solve illegal migration within three years according to the Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihusan earlier.
The authority earlier said that it was targeting to deport 5,000 illegal expatriates before this year ended, and achieved this target earlier in November.
Under the nationwide ‘Operation Kurangi’, which was launched to collect information on all foreign immigrants, authorities have collected biometric data of over 18,000 foreigners.
