The three Somalis found on a skiff boat off the coast of Fuvahmulah City on Monday have been transferred to the custody of the police, as the agency investigates how they ended up in the Maldives.
The boat the trio was travelling on was found adrift approximately 10 nautical miles northwest of Fuvahmulah on Monday morning.
The boat was captured by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coast Guard and taken to the southern city of Fuvahmulah.
The city’s deputy mayor Mohamed Fikry told Sun that the three men, along with the boat they were travelling on, were handed over to the custody of the police on Monday.
A police spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that the men were in custody of the police.
“We are investigating how they ended up in the Maldives region,” said the spokesperson.
The police added that they are sharing information regarding the trio with relevant agencies and taking all necessary measures.
