Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim states there should not be any obstruction to handing over the land plots to Male’ residents who are the rightful owners of the plots despite the fire that broke out at the building housing Housing Ministry.
Housing Ministry has stated that documents related to ‘Binveriya’ and ‘Gedhoruveriya’ housing schemes are stored digitally via cloud hosting, and thus, would not be impacted due to the fire.
Speaking regarding the fire during an appearance at Sun’s ‘Editaruge Suvaal’ program, Mayor Azim said award letters have been issued to the recipients by Ministries with respect to the land plots that were taken by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) during their investigation which took a backup of documents before returning them.
He stressed that the land and flats have not been handed over to its recipients in the course of one year not due to the fire, but rather due to negligence.
“While housing for Male’ residents remains the most important matter, one year has passed by just saying tomorrow, by the end of tomorrow, before the end of this week. These things are not acceptable to the people, especially in [my capacity] as Male’ City Mayor,” he added.
Azim said the reclamation of Rasmale’ would not have been commenced if the government had the intention to complete the issue of housing already at hand. In this regard, he said the funds for Rasmale’ project would have been utilized to develop infrastructure at locations that have already been reclaimed.
As such, he emphasized that the government prioritizing housing is not witnessed.
