Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)’s Visit Maldives Club (VMC) is set to launch a global sports fishing competition, Burunu Boma, scheduled to take place next year.
VMC is an initiative by MMPRC staff aimed at strengthening Maldives tourism industry via engaging events to create a unified tourism community collaboratively working to elevate the Maldives as a top global destination.
Set to officially launch at 20:00pm tomorrow, the exclusive event is designed to attract international fishing enthusiasts and participants from the Maldives tourism industry. It will take place between April and May of 2025.
The competition will highlight the "catch and release" method, promoting the protection of marine environments and underwater life while encouraging healthy and friendly competition in fishing.
The focus on sustainable fishing practices aligns with global conservation efforts while raising awareness among tourism professionals about responsible practices.
Participants in the competition which will be held in Maldives’ pristine and diverse waters will be eligible to win several exciting prizes across various categories, with notable special recognition awarded for sustainable fishing efforts.
The competition is endorsed by Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Visit Maldives, Maldives Association of Tourism Industry, Maldives Association Of Travel Agents And Tour Operators, National Hotel and Guesthouse Association of Maldives, and National Boating Association of Maldives and Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation and Maldivian Red Crescent.
Commenting on the event, MMPRC’s CEO and MD Ibrahim Shiuree expressed the desire to see a day when Maldives will grow in the world of sports fishing.
“We hope that this event will attract international fishermen and make the country a prominent place for various fields of sports tourism,” he said, citing it is MMPRC’s mission to promote to the world the long-standing sustainable fishing practices of the Maldives.
President of VMC Ahmed Saaif expressed support received for the event from the industry, club members, and the MMPRC management.
