Maldives records 1.9 million tourist arrivals so far this year

Tourism Ministry statistics show that Maldives has recorded 1.9 million tourist arrivals for far this year.

This is an increase compared to the previous two years. In this regard, Maldives recorded 1.6 million tourist arrivals in the entirety of 2022 and 1.8 million tourist arrivals in the entirety of 2023.

As the tourism peak season prevails, Maldives has recorded 82,484 tourist arrivals so far since the start of December. This is also an increase compared to the previous two years.

The largest number of tourist arrivals are from China, with 257,794 arrivals, representing 13.4 percent of the total. Russia ranks second with 212,685 arrivals, making up 11.1 percent of the total. The UK follows in third place, with 168,460 arrivals, which accounts for 8.8 percent of the total.

The top tourist market to the Maldives last year, India, is ranked sixth with 121,490 arrivals. This accounts for 6.3 percent of the total arrivals.

The Maldivian government is targeting to achieve two million tourist arrivals by the end of this year.

Maldives, which was crowned World’s Leading Tourist Destination for the fifth consecutive year this year at the World Travel Awards, presently has 65,234 beds in operation.

They include 44,663 beds at 182 resorts, 2,028 beds at 14 hotels, 15,491 beds at 920 guesthouses and 3,052 beds at 155 safari vessels.
