Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed states 32 lifts were purchased at a cost of USD 18 million under the project to install additional lifts at Hiyaa towers.
He provided the details in response to a question posed by main opposition MDP’s Hanimadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor at Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday.
In this regard, he detailed USD 18 million was incurred to purchase all additional lifts for Hyaa towers.
“USD 18 million, to purchase all lifts for Hiyaa [towers]. That is 32 lifts. The work is ongoing,” he said.
Installation of additional lifts at each Hiyaa tower developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II is an electoral pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The project was awarded to China's Shenyang Yuanda Intellectual Industry Group last February. In this regard, the Chinese company was contracted to install a total of 32 lifts across 16 Hiya towers.
Physical works on the project commenced in April.
Prior to this, HDC has said the project is expected to reach completion next year following which the newly installed lifts will be operationalized.
