The parliamentary sitting scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled due to lack of work to set in the agenda.
The Parliament usually holds sittings three days of the week; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The sittings usually start at 09:00 am. When questioned by reporters regarding why the agenda for Wednesday’s sitting hasn’t been released, an official from the Secretariat of the Parliament said that the next sitting will be held on Monday, December 9.
The Parliament did not make an official comment regarding the reason for the cancellation.
However, a parliamentarian told Sun that the sitting was cancelled due to lack of work to set in the agenda.
“There’s no work to be done today, not even on a bill. But the committees have work,” said the parliamentarian.
The Parliament has not responded to queriers seeking an official comment regarding the cancellation.
When adjourning Tuesday’s sitting, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim had announced that a sitting would be held the following day.
The Parliament had been set to go into recess on November 30. However, the current session was extended to December 15 at the behest of Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
