Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed was conferred the 2024 Global Citizen Award on Thursday.
The award, conferred annually by the international residence and citizenship advisory firm Henley & Partners, was presented to Nasheed during the gala reception of the 18th Global Citizenship Conference in Singapore.
The Global Citizenship Award is given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to advancing the well-being of vulnerable social groups.
Nasheed received the award in recognition of his outstanding leadership in promoting human rights and enhancing climate resilience on a global scale.
Nasheed, the first democratically elected President of the Maldives, currently serves as the Secretary General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum.
He has also previously served as the Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament.
Following the announcement of the award, Nasheed was extended congratulations by various individuals, including members of his political party, The Democrats.
