Bärbel Richter, one of Sun Siyam Vilu Reef’s most iconic repeat guests, has returned for her 45h visit to the picturesque resort island.
German couple Bärbel and Hans made their first visit to Vilu Reef on December 5, 2000. They ended up claiming Vilu Reef as their first home, and its staff as their children. They are Mama and Papa of Vilu Reef.
Mama, now 75, returned to Vilu Reef for her 45th visit on Friday.
Papa could not join the trip due to old age and walking difficulties.
Mama’s return is a major celebration at the resort.
The team at Vilu Reef welcomed her in true Maldivian style, with bodu beru, dhigu magu hingun and traditional dances, showcasing true Maldivian hospitality.
Speaking to Sun during their 30th return to the Maldives in 2017, Mama said she and her husband fell in love with the Maldives during their very first visit.
"This is our home. These are our children. They make us very happy," she said.
The Vilu Reef enjoys a number of loyal repeat guests, including the Vilu Sisters - Melanie Per and Nicole Per - reflecting the exceptional experiences and hospitality that the resort consistently provides.
With its breathtaking surroundings and its 103 charming island villas, Vilu Reef embodies the ultimate, naturally playful, tropical boutique hideaway.
Nestled in Dhaalu Atoll, a mere 35-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport, the resort exemplifies a rustic feel with a Maldivian touch - white interiors contrasting with tropical color accents.
A multitude of first-class amenities make the resort the perfect getaway. Whether it be the succulent tastes and sumptuous dining of all four corners of the earth or world-class spa and wellness treatments using authentic and age-old techniques, the boutique resort is the definition of barefoot holidays.
