The Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has urged the citizens to remain steadfast and committed in protecting the country from any danger to its freedom and peace.
In his address to commemorate the Maldives Victory Day, celebrated every year on November 3rd, he called the attack on Maldives soil on the same date in 1988 one of the most dangerous incursions the island nation faced.
According to the MDA leader, Maldivians will never forget the deadly attack to their own soil, led by some of their own people with the help of a foreign terrorist organization.
Siyam in his address, made duas for the martyrs who died on the day while defending the country. He prayed the martyrs to receive eternal blessing.
Speaking on the same topic, Siyam further bemoaned that the attack was planned and orchestrated by fellow countrymen, which eventually resulted in the deaths of 19 Maldivian citizens. Siyam also said that due to the attack, Maldivians learned valuable lessons too.
He said the incursion proved the existence of those who would cross all limits for their thirst for power. He added history was reflective of this as well.
Siyam urged all relevant authorities to remain cautious and well prepared to face off any possibility of such attacks in the future as well.
The leader also called his fellow country people to give precedence to the safety and preservation of the nation.
