Maldives contends in Miss Universe for the first time

Maldivian model Mariyam Shaina Naseem will be representing the country at 73rd edition of the Miss Universe global pageantry; marking the first-time ever the Maldives is contending in the event.

The Maldives, in a historic first, will be contending in the Miss Universe.

Hailed as one of the 'Big Four beauty pageants' of the world, the Miss Universe one of the most sought-after global beauty pageant events.

Maldives is receiving its first-ever representation at the global pageantry by 21-year-old local model Mariyam Shaina Naseem.

This year's Miss Universe will be taking place at Mexico, with the pageantry kicking off on November 14th with the grand finale scheduled for November 16th.

The Mexican Embassy in India confirmed via X on Tuesday, that it had granted visa to the Maldivian contestant.

The Mexican Ambassador to India, Diego Pérez met Shaina and expressed hope that the young contestant will go on achieve success.

While Shaina will be representing the Maldives at the global stage, the young model had been crowned winner of the Top Model Maldives 2022. She also represented the Maldives at the Top Model of the World 2023 held in Egypt.

A total of 130 countries will be taking part in the global pageantry, competing for the coveted Miss Universe title. Besides the Maldives, Somalia, Belarus, Iran, Uzbekistan, and United Arab Emirates (UAE), are all first-time contenders at the event.
