Airport worker dies while driving luggage vehicle

An airport worker died on Tuesday, while driving a luggage vehicle at the apron of the Velama International Airport (VIA).

The incident was reported to the police at around 09:23 am Tuesday.

According to the police, the worker, identified as a 45-year-old Maldivian man, had been driving the luggage vehicle in the airport’s apron when it crashed into the bottom of a structure with lights and cameras attached to it.

The Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) identified the deceased as Aslam Adam.

“We will remember him for his dedicated services,” said the MACL, in a post on X conveying condolences to the bereaved family.

Aslam was taken to the airport’s clinic, which confirmed he was already deceased when taken there.

He was subsequently taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’.

According to the police, the doctors who examined his body reported there were no outward signs of injury.

“He is believed to have hit the structure due to a health issue,” said the police.

The police said they were looking into the case.
