As we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, I am honored to share my experiences as a participant in the Seminar on Economic and Trade Cooperation for Developing Countries, held in Shanghai from November 14th to December 4th, 2023. This seminar, organized by the Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China and hosted by Shanghai Business School, offered a unique opportunity to delve into China’s remarkable economic development and explore avenues for collaboration between China and the Maldives.
Prior to joining Maldives Post Limited as Senior E-Commerce Executive, I worked as an Assistant Director in the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. During this time, I had the privilege of attending the seminar, which provided a comprehensive overview of China's economic strategies and the opportunities for partnership between our two nations.
This seminar brought together a diverse group of participants from developing countries. Through engaging lectures, case studies, and site visits, we gained invaluable insights into China's economic transformation and its approach to international trade.
One of the most striking aspects of the seminar was the emphasis on China’s market-oriented reforms. We learned about the crucial role played by infrastructure development, technological advancements, and international trade in driving China's economic growth.
The seminar also highlighted the opportunities for collaboration between China and developing countries. From trade facilitation and investment promotion to technology transfer and capacity building, there is immense potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.
As a Maldivian, I was particularly interested in learning about China’s experience in sustainable development and its commitment to addressing global challenges. The seminar provided valuable insights into China’s efforts to balance economic growth with environmental protection and social equity.
The Seminar on Economic and Trade Cooperation for Developing Countries was a transformative experience that deepened my understanding of China’s economic journey and its role in the global landscape. As the Maldives continues to seek economic growth and development, I believe that strengthening our ties with China can offer immense opportunities for collaboration and prosperity.
