A fire has broken out on a cargo boat off the coast of Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.
The incident was reported to the Kudahuvadhoo Fire Station in the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Central Area Command at around 07:20 am Sunday.
According to the MNDF, the fire broke out on the cargo boat, ‘Hamdh’, which had been carrying water to Kandima Maldives.
There were four people onboard at the time, all of whom are reported to be safe.
According to the MNDF, the fire originated from the engine room of the boat.
Firefighters from the Kudahuvadhoo Fire Station were immediately deployed to respond to the fire. They received reinforcement from firefighters from the F. Nilandhoo Fire Station, who arrived at the scene at around 11:00 am.
The MNDF later said that firefighters have managed to put out the fire. While the fire did not cause any injuries, it resulted in massive damage to the boat.
