19-year-old evading police arrested after seven months following Interpol Red Notice

A 19-year-old whom the Police have been searching for in connection to case involving a violence has been caught after seven months following Interpol Red Notice.

As per the Criminal Court order, the youth from Male’ is suspected of gang violence using sharp-edged weapons and disturbing public order.

The Court noted that the Police had submitted sufficient evidence to warrant suspicions against the youth, including snapshots of CCTV footage showing the incident in question and statements from witnesses. As per the Court, the evidence suggests he had physically participated in committing the crime.

The court order detailed that the witnesses reported the usage of a weapon in the altercation. It further read that the youth had been evading Police for approximately seven months. An Interpol Red Notice was issued in search of the youth who was ultimately arrested from abroad and deported from the respective country.

Criminal Court remanded the youth in custody pending the outcome of trial, citing the high risk of fleeing and that the youth was a danger to society in light of physical involvement in gang violence.
