A motorcycle and truck collided in an accident on one of the bridges between Hulhumale’ Phase I and Phase II on Monday morning, leaving the motorcyclist injured.

Reports indicate the collision took place between a motorcycle and one of Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s water tankers.

A police spokesperson said the accident resulted in injuries to a 24-year-old Maldivian man who was driving the motorcycle.

He was taken to the Hulhumale’ Hospital.

The hospital was not immediately available for comment regarding the extent of his injuries.

The collision was the latest in a string of dangerous accidents in Male’ City and Hulhumale’ in recent weeks, some of which have resulted in fatalities.

The spike in accidents has prompted the police to deploy a greater number of traffic police to patrol the streets of the capital. The police have said they will begin using motorcycles to patrol the Sinamale’ Bridge this week, to speed up response to accidents.

The police have received reports of nearly 2,000 road accidents so far this year, with over 200 accidents reported each month.
