A fire has broken out at a café located in the Sosun Magu of Male’ City.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) confirmed receiving report of a fire breaking out from a Henveiru district building (H. Dhoohimerige), which houses a cafe'.
MNDF's Fire & Rescue was dispatched, and are currently attempting to control the fire, which according to an on-site 'Sun' reporter, continued to grow despite efforts.
The local authority had not provided any other details, including potential cause for the fire, so far.
Pictures and videos of the fire have been shared on social media already. Thick plumes of smoke can be seen coming out from the building while the fire continues to grow.
Available photo sources further indicate the building houses Gaamagu Cafe', a local eatery mostly popular among male consumers.
'Sun' reporters on site also confirmed the authorities have been evacuating residents, both living in the building where the fire broke out and in neighboring houses, away from harm.
While the fire has not been controlled, reporters on site have confirmed the flames have grown to engulf the adjacent building.
