Hulhumale’ Central Park accident: Driver gets remand until sentencing

Police revealed the driver's identity: Mohamed Wisham Sidhqee, 26, Addu City Hithahdoo

Criminal Court has sentenced a remand until sentencing on the suspect involved in a deadly accident near Hulhumale’ Central Park on Friday early hours.

Mohamed Wisham Sidhqee, aged 26, from Addu City Hithadhoo, was arrested for alleged reckless driving and possible manslaughter. Maldives Police Service also confirmed Wisham did not possess a valid driver’s license.

The victim, Hassan Samah, aged 23, was traveling on a bike at the time of the incident and was critically injured from the impact. He passed away at Hulhumale’ Hospital amid treatment.

The incident has sparked widespread public concerns with many already calling out for a ban on racing cars in the Maldives, and have called for stricter action against reckless drivers and riders while endangering the public.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has also called out to the relevant authorities to launch legal reforms to ensure strict measures against offenders on the road.
