Youth must maintain independence and sovereignty: Siyam

President of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and Meedhoo MP, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed said on Tuesday that the youth must take initiative in maintaining the independence, sovereignty, and sustainable and stable economy of the Maldives.

Siyam made the remarks in an address on the occasion of the Maldives National Day while extending the occasion’s greetings to the public.

In his address, Siyam has urged Maldives youth to rekindle their spirits and strengthen the resolve to maintain the Maldivian independence and sovereignty, and ensure sustainable and stable economy. The MDA leader further said this must be viewed a national responsibility by all, and urged support from everyone to realize these aspirations.

Siyam also extended prayers and well wishes to Sultan Gazi Mohamed Thakurufaan Al Auzam Siri Savaadheeththa Mahaaradhun (Boduthakurufaanu), on whose victory against Portuguese occupation the day is celebrated.

The MDA leader in his address noted the state of despair and desperation of the Maldivian people by the time the 15-year reign of the Portuguese occupation ended.

He further said that efforts of the hero who liberated the country from foreign occupants, named the nation ‘Al Dhaulathul Mahaldheebiyya’, protected Islamic faith, and propelled a stable economy, serves as a timeless reminder of courage and valor.

Siyam concluded his remarks wishing everlasting bliss for the Maldivian people and the preservation of the country’s sovereignty.
