Tourist arrivals to Maldives tops 1.3 million

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives has surpassed 1.3 million, with statics showing a 10.4 percent increase in visitors compared to last year.

According to the latest information released by the Tourism Ministry, the Maldives recorded 1,343,911 tourist arrivals as of August 27. This is a 10.4 percent increase compared to the 1,216,815 visitors the country recorded during the same period last year.

The country has seen average daily arrivals of 5,600 visitors this year, with an average duration of stay of 7.7 days.

China continues to be the top source market for tourist arrivals, nearing 200,000 visitors.

  • Russia: 144,950 visitors (10.8 percent)
  • UK: 116,268 visitors (8.7 percent)
  • Italy: 100,367 visitors (7.5 percent)
  • Germany: 94,978 visitors (7.1 percent)
  • India: 80,365 visitors (6 percent)
  • USA: 45,920 visitors (3.4 percent)
  • France: 38,999 visitors (2.9 percent)
  • Spain: 28,780 visitors (2.1 percent)
  • Switzerland: 25,622 visitors (1.9 percent)

Maldives expects to see a record two million tourists this year.
