Tourist arrivals in August surpass 100,000; up 14.9%

Maldives has seen a 14.9 percent increase in tourist arrivals this August compared to the same period last year, according to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry.

The latest information shows the Maldives recorded 109,415 arrivals between August 1-17. This marks a 14.9 percent increase from the 95,196 visitors last year.

The highest daily arrivals so far this month was recorded on August 14, with 7,032 visitors.

The country has seen average daily arrivals of 6,436 visitors in August, with an average duration of stay of 7.8 days.

China continues to be the top source market for tourist arrivals, with 184,632 visitors as of August 17.

  • USA: 44,673 visitors (3.5 percent)
  • France: 38,185 visitors (3 percent)
  • Spain: 26,261 visitors (2 percent)
  • Switzerland: 25,369 visitors (2 percent)

Maldives has seen 1.2 million tourist arrivals so far this year – up 10.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

The country expects to see a record two million tourists this year.
