Zameer urges countries to boost cooperation to achieve development goals

Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has urged countries need to strengthen cooperation to accelerate action towards Sustainable Development Goals.

The minister made the remarks during the Foreign Ministers’ session of the Third Voice of the Global South Summit, convened by the Indian government virtually on Saturday, held under the theme of “Charting a New Paradigm for Global South.”

In his remarks, Minister Zameer commended India’s exemplary leadership demonstrated during its Group of 20 (G20) presidency, and for leading initiatives that have contributed positively on the G20 countries and Global South.

He also highlighted that debt obligations hindered sustainable development, especially resilience building.

Zameer stressed the urgency of delivering “the climate justice” for Small Island Development States (SIDS), the Global South, and the world.

In his remarks, Minister Zameer also underscored the importance of digital tools in redefining and realizing the development trajectories of Global South.

The Voice of Global South Summit, an Indian government’s initiative during its G20 presidency, is a platform for non-G20 member states, especially the Global South.

The one-day summit, inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is comprised of ten thematic sessions at ministerial level.

The foreign ministers session was chaired by the Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. S. Jaishankar. Foreign ministers of Brunei, Cambodia, Cuba, Ira, Lao, Lesotho, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Panama, Solomon Islands, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Tuvalu participated in the session.
