A young boy cut his mouth while having tea on Friday evening, after he bit into a shard of porcelain embedded into a store-bought short eat.
The incident took place in GDh. Thinadhoo.
A woman who identified herself as a family member wrote on Facebook that they bought the short eats from a popular store in the island.
She said that her brother cut his mouth while eating one of the short eats.
She shared photos of shards of porcelain which she said was found inside one of the short eats, and photos of the injury.
The woman noted that a lot of people by short eats from the store in question, and urged food sellers to adhere to hygiene standards.
The sale of short eats is common not just in café’s, restaurants and tea shops, but also convenience stores. Most of the short eats sold in stores come from home-based buisnesses.
