Vinares accident: Victim to be transferred abroad for further treatment

The family of the victim who was injured after an out-of-control car crashed into a motorbike near Vinares Flats in Hulhumale' Phase II last Wednesday states he is preparing for his transfer abroad for further treatment.

The victim, a 27-year-old male who was on the motorbike, was sent flying and crashing into the ground from the force of the impact. He is currently being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City.

Prior to this, his family reported that he sustained facial fractures, but that his condition was stable. 

Speaking with Sun on earlier tonight, a family member said although his condition is stable, the surgery required to fix some of the facial fractures cannot be done in the Maldives.

Henceforth, the family member said he would depart abroad for further treatment once doctors give permission to travel.

The family member also noted that a CT scan conducted to further probe his condition showed no further alarms.

CCTV footage of the accident which went viral on social media shows the car had veered out of control as it made a hard turn into the road. It hit the grassy road divider and then rammed into the idle motorcyclist who had stopped on the side of the road to pick up his phone.

The force of the impact sent him flying in the air. The video also showed that the motorcyclist hit his head on top of the car before being thrown to the ground.

The car had also taken down a tree on the side of the road before veering to a stop on the pavement.

The three people in the car, who had fled after the crash, were arrested on Wednesday night.

Ikram Ibrahim, who had been driving the car, and Ikram-ul Rahman, were remanded in custody pending the outcome of their trial by the Criminal Court. Jinah Ismail was remanded in custody for 15 days by Hulhumale’ Court.

The accident is under further investigation by the Police.
