Mayor Azim wins MDP Male’ constituency’s presidency by a landslide

Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim has won main opposition MDP National Council’s Male’ constituency presidency by a landslide.

The post was contested by Azim and former West Maafannu MP Mohamed Falah.

MDP told Sun that Azim received a total of 1,079 votes from all ballot boxes while Falah received 470 votes.

Voting in MDP National Council by-election commenced at 14:30pm this afternoon and concluded at 21:00pm tonight.

Meanwhile, former Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and Aik Ahmed Easa contested for North Galolhu constituency while MDP activists Khadheeja Mohamed and Liruam Waheed contested for North Mahchangolhi constituency.

Fursham Mohamed and Ifham Hussain contested for North Maafannu constituency and Mariyam Eama Shafeeq, Mohamed Gudhurathuthulla and Maaz Ahmed Saleem contested for West Henveiru constituency.

Central Henvieru constituency was contested by Meekail Mohamed Riyash and Ahmed Shaffan. The sea was won by Meekail. North Henveiru constituency was contested by former MP Ibrahim Muizzu and Ahmed Ahnaf Firaq.

Safath Ahmed Zahir and Ahmed Shafeeq contested for Central Henveiru constituency which was son by Safath.

Abdulla Naseer Mohamed, Fathimath Zahiyya and Yoosuf Siraj contested for North Hulhumale’ constituency. Thinadhoo constituency was contested by Ahmed Gais and the constituency's former parliamentary representative Abdul Mughnee.

While voting in the by-election took place at 24 islands in the atolls, voting in Male’ area proceeded at Hiriyaa School and Thaajudheen School.
