Police reveal details Vinares accident suspects

Maldives Police Service has disclosed the identities of the suspects involved in the horrific accident near Vinares Flats in Hulhumale's Phase II on Wednesday afternoon.

The authority, in a message shared with local media, confirmed three local men were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. All three were arrested on Wednesday evening via court orders.

Police arrested the following individuals in the case:

  • Ikram-ul Rahman (H. Nooranmaage, Male')
  • Ibrahim Ikram (M. Land of Garden, Male')
  • Jinah Ismail (Aazadhuge, GA. Kanduhulhudhoo)

The police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shifan confirmed the arrest of the three suspects, and added the authority has launched investigation into the case.

The accident, captured on CCTV, showed the car had veered out of control as it made a hard turn into the road and hit the grassy road divider and rammed into the idle biker, who was sent flying in air from the force of the impact.

The video also showed that the biker hit his head on top of the car before being thrown to the ground.

The victim's family reported that some of the bones in his face had been broken but were otherwise stable. The 27-year-old victim was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital's (IGMH) emergency room for treatment and has since been transferred to the general ward.
