Housing Ministry states a total of 624 land plots have been issued from Hulhumale’ under the former administration’s ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme, including 18 today.
The Ministry disclosed the numbers via a post on X on Monday.
The former administration awarded 1,408 land plots from Hulhumale’. 465 plots were handed over to recipients at the end of last year. With the handover of an additional 159 land plots so far this year, a total of 624 land plots have been issued to recipients.
The previous government decided to issue 9,003 plots to 18,955 eligible recipients from the first round of the Binveriya Scheme. The plots were designated from Hulhumale', Gulhifalhu, and Giraavarufalhu.
The delays in the land plots and flats awarded under Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya housing schemes of the previous administration prompted Male’ residents to stage a protest last Thursday night.
The final list of flat recipients, however, has been highly criticized over how the points had been allocated.
ACC, which conducted an investigation into the list, claimed 59.6 percent of the recipients were ineligible.
Some recipients have expressed concern alleging the current administration intends to revoke the list.
A petition has been submitted to the parliament which calls against revoking the list. The parliamentary committee reviewing the petition is working on summoning Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar and other officials to be questioned regarding the petition.
