Additional expatriates have been detained in an ongoing crackdown on illegal migration being carried out by Maldives Immigration in collaboration with Maldives Police Service.

Immigration said they conducted raids on four food establishments in Male’ City, comprising of cafés and takeaways, on Saturday night.

Six expatriates – six men and a woman – were detained during these raids, said Immigration, adding they had also shut down a café operated by some of those who were detained.

Immigration also noted that an expatriate was arrested during the raids for damaging a vehicle belonging to the authority.

Immigration is undertaking significant efforts to combat illegal migration which remains a longstanding issue in the Maldives. In this regard, the authority, last week, said over 1,800 expatriates detained in the current raids have been deported to their respective nations.
