People walled inside home due to illegal registry: Council

Male’ City Council has reported that the residents of Henveiru Hudhufinifenmaage have been walled in after a wall was constructed obstructing the entrance, was a case of unlawful home registry issuance.

At the press conference held on Saturday, the council’s legal representative Abdulla Abdul Hakeem disclosed details of the incident.

He highlighted that the dispute of the Male’ City residence has stretched 27 years.

Hakeem said the house measured 3,980 square feet, which was initially split to two plots – which are Hudhufinifenmaage and Hudhufinifenmaage Aage. He explained the alley in question measured 320 square feet, which is included in the 1,985 square feet area of Hudhufinifenmaage.

Hudhufinifenmaage was later split into two more plots, with one named Kubra while the other retained the original name. Both plots can be accessed only via Hadheebee Magu. The former house was registered to Hawwa Ibrahim and Hassan Shakir.

However, Hudhufinifenmaage was registered to Hassan Shakir, which had not included a lane for Hawwa Ibrahim to access the residence.

In 2020, a separate registry was made under Shakir’s name which extended permit for construction, which Hakeem said barred access to the rear plot of Hudhufinifenmaage.

The situation erupted after the wall of Hudhufinifenmaage Aage was constructed, while Hakeem said the construction of the perimeter wall of a private residence cannot be intervened by the council.

He further said that the authority demanded to facilitate access to the rear plot for Hawwa Ibrahim to access within four weeks, but the situation intensified since the access was never provided.
