A car crashed into the solar panels installed at Sinamale’ Bridge highway on Friday morning, resulting in damage to both the car and the solar panels.
Police, noting no one was injured in the accident, said the case was under further investigation by the authority.
No further details regarding the accident were disclosed by the Police. However, a video viral on social media shows that the collision resulted in significant damage to both the car and the solar panels.
This is not the first such incident. In this regard, a taxi crashed into the solar panels back in September of last year, resulting in MVR 200,000 in damages.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously said the solar panels installed at the highway during the former administration will be relocated elsewhere.
The solar panels were installed under the second phase of the Accelerating Sustainable Private Investments in Renewable Energy (ASPIRE) Project carried out by the Environment Ministry with the World Bank’s assistance. The project was initiated to reduce state expenses on fuel required to produce electricity.
