ADK seek parliament help to claim MVR 144 mil from govt

ADK has requested parliament intervention to recover MVR 114 million in outstanding payments state allegedly owe them.

A letter sent from ADK Group was presented at the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee meeting on Monday, which highlighted the group is owed money for the services it provided to government entities on credit.

ADK Group in its letter also said the state owed money to them for the services provided under Aasandha and NPSA, with long overdue payments in pending.

According to the letter, the government owed MVR 144,376,112 to ADK Group in total. From the total amount, the bills for MVR 78.5 million have exceeded 90 days from the date of the invoices the group raised to the government.

The group sought parliament assistance to claim the outstanding MVR 78.5 million from the state.

In response, Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau said that outstanding money were for services ADK Group provided during the former MDP-led administration. He added similar issues are stacked at the committee already.

“They [MDP] have handled everything in a similar manner, so we need to clarify the current status in these matters. I do not think the money in question originated under our government,” Shujau said.

Supporting the MP’s statements, the committee’s deputy chair Ahmed Saleem highlighted the letter was dated November 06^th of last year, during which MDP was still in presidency.

Saleem questioned why the letter was not put on the parliament agenda back then.

The committee’s chair Qasim Ibrahim sought a vote from its members to submit a letter seeking the total amount state owed to ADK Group currently. The members agreed to send the letter requesting the details.

Earlier, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed said the current administration inherited MVR 7 billion in unpaid bills incurred during the former government.
