Elderly woman found dead off Dhanbidhoo

An elderly woman who went swimming in the waters off L. Dhanbidhoo was found dead on Saturday.

According to police, it received a report at 04:55 pm on Saturday, regarding an individual who was taken to the Dhanbidhoo Health Center after being found adrift in the waters off the causeway, in the eastern end of the island.

Citing officials from the Dhanbidhoo Health Center, the police said that the individual, who they identified as a 65-year-old Maldivian woman, was already deceased when taken to the health facility.

Dhanbidhoo Council’s vice president Hussain Fazeel told Sun that the woman went swimming at around 03:00 pm.

He said that while she went alone, there were other people swimming in the area.

Fazeel said that her body was found by an expatriate worker, some 500 feet from where she went into the waters.

The police said they were looking into the death.
