The police say they towed over 100 illegally parked vehicles over the last two days, in an effort to clear the streets of the capital, Male’ City.
According to a statement released by the police on Saturday, officers towed 163 four-wheeled vehicles parked in a manner that disrupted the traffic flow.
This includes 84 vehicles parked illegally along the Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu, from the MNDF military headquarters, Kalhuthukalaa Koshi, to the swimming track area.
Another 79 vehicles were towed after they were parked illegally from Dharubaaruge to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), from Senahiya Hospital to Maagiri Hotel, and from the Izzuddin bus stop.
According to the police, this also includes an unregistered vehicle found parked on Izzuddin Magu.
The police have repeatedly warned against parking vehicles in an obstructive manner, especially expressing concern that some vehicles block public transport and vehicles used by emergency responders, such as ambulances and fire trucks.
The police have urged the public to park in designated parking spaces.
