State Electric Company (STO) said on Wednesday that the review of complaints submitted over high electricity bills in May conclusively point to a rise in energy consumption.
STELCO had asked customers to submit complaints following great public discontent over high bills not just in May, but also the previous month.
The state utility company received over 6,000 complaints regarding the issue.
A spokesperson from STELCO said the company has been properly responsive over the complaints.
This is all just a misunderstanding, said the spokesperson.
STELCO said the last bill was higher than the previous bills because of the discount on utility bills the two months.
This is why the usage was low and the bill amount was higher, said the spokesperson.
Despite the criticism against STELCO over the high bills, the Utility Regulatory Authority (URA) has yet to make a comment regarding the matter.
