The Parliament's Public Accounts Committee has decided to summon the Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq to inquire about the current fiscal conditions of the Maldives.
At the committee's meeting on Tuesday, the proposal to summon Minister Shafeeq was submitted by Deputy Speaker of the parliament and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim.
Nazim said the parliament committee need a clearer picture of the current fiscal and economic conditions of the Maldives, for which the minister's summoning was neceesary.
"We need to assess the current fiscal conditions thoroughly. That's why the first order of business in the committee is for its members to acquire accurate information from the minister in his presence," Nazim said.
The committee, chaired by Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim, approved to summon the minister with unanimous vote from its members.
Earlier in March this year, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) projected a favorable outlook of the island nation's fiscal health, but addressed the presence of few challenges.
MMA highlighted the biggest challenge for the public finance sector of Maldives was to sustain the security of external finances.
