Laiba wins two medals in Armenian Youth Open 2024

Maldivian badminton player Laiba Ahmed Mahloof (Elly) has won two medals in the finals of the Armenian Youth Open 2024.

Laiba won silver medal in the under 14 doubles category, competing alongside her partner Katherine from Cyprus, and bronze medal in the under 13 mixed doubles category, competing alongside her partner Mark from Armenia. 

According to Laiba, this marks her third silver medal and fifth bronze medal in international tournaments.

Laiba lost to Bulgaria’s first-ranking doubles pair in the finals, in sets of 13-21 and 12-21.

She proceeded to the round of 16 under the singles category, losing out to Cyprus’ Katherine by a slight difference, in sets of 12-7 and 22-20.

Following her success in the competition, Laiba extended gratitude to her coaches; Charith, Abishek and Abdul.

She also extended gratitude to Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM)’s President Moosa Nashid, for the opportunity to be a part of the junior pool. 

Laiba also thanked well wishers for the love and support and her sponsors for trusting her and supporting her in her journey.

She is set to complete in Yonex Polish International Festival in Bialystok, Poland, next weekend.

Last year, Laiba secured two silver medals and four bronze medals competing against top-ranking badminton players under 11 from Europe.
